Who can import household goods into Mexico?

• Mexican citizens returning from abroad

• Foreigners with permanent residency

Each case has different documentation requirements that must be prepared before shipment.

Mexican Customs recognizes different scenarios:

🇲🇽 Required documents to import household goods into Mexico for returning Mexican citizens

To import your belongings duty-free* you must present:

• Valid Mexican passport

• Inventory list in Spanish certified by the Mexican Consulate**

• Evidence of having lived abroad for at least 6 months

• Customs letter declaring value and personal use of the goods

• CURP and RFC

• Complete origin and destination addresses

* It is not possible to import used household goods by paying duties in Mexico

** The consular inventory must include brand, model, and serial number of main appliances and can only be processed abroad after 6 months of living outside Mexico

🪪 Required documents to import household goods into Mexico for permanent residents

To import your belongings duty-free* you must present:

• Permanent resident card (both sides)

• Valid passport

• Inventory list in Spanish certified by the Mexican Consulate**

• Customs letter declaring value and personal use of the goods

• CURP and RFC

* It is not possible to import used household goods by paying duties in Mexico

** The consular inventory must include brand, model, and serial number of main appliances and can only be processed at origin before 6 months after obtaining permanent residency

To import your belongings duty-free* you must present:

• Valid passport

• Valid temporary resident card

• Inventory list including brand, model, and serial number of electronics

• Customs letter declaring value and personal use of the goods

• CURP

* It is not possible to import used household goods by paying duties in Mexico

🎖 Required documents to import household goods into Mexico for diplomats

To import your belongings duty-free* as a diplomat you must present:

• Valid diplomatic passport

• Diplomatic accreditation card issued by SRE (both sides)

• Franchise issued by SRE processed by your diplomatic office in Mexico

• Inventory list including brand, model, and serial number of electronics

• Customs letter declaring value and personal use of the goods

* It is not possible to import used household goods by paying duties in Mexico

Importing used vehicles as part of household goods.

• Diplomats may import vehicles

• Temporary residents may import under temporary permit

• Clearance must be processed through the Port of Veracruz

• The owner must be present in some cases
